Apple’s Foldable iPhone: What We Know So Far

The long-rumored foldable iPhone may be closer to reality, as alleged specifications were recently shared online. While whispers of an “iPhone Fold” have circulated for years, a new leak claims to reveal detailed specs for the much-anticipated device.
The information comes from social media leaker Jukanlosreve (formerly TechReve), who highlighted details attributed to an unknown source called “zwz.” While Jukanlosreve has a history of accurate leaks, the origins of this information are unverified, so take this with a grain of salt.
Dimensions and Display
The leak suggests the foldable iPhone will be “comparable to two 6.1-inch iPhones folded together,” resulting in a total size exceeding 12 inches when unfolded. However, this estimate seems off—two 6.1-inch iPhones combined would realistically create a diagonal screen size of around 7.5 inches, similar to the iPad mini’s 8.3-inch display.
The display is reportedly being developed by Samsung, a leader in foldable technology. This aligns with previous rumors that Apple was working with Samsung and LG to create a durable foldable screen. However, other reports suggest Apple has yet to finalize a supplier.
In terms of thickness, the iPhone Fold is rumored to measure 4.6mm when unfolded and 9.2mm when folded. If true, this would make it thinner than Apple’s current iPad Pro M4 (5.1mm) and slimmer than competitors like the Samsung Z Fold (5.6mm). These claims, however, seem ambitious and should be viewed skeptically.
Hinge Design
The iPhone Fold is said to feature a “large folding mechanism on the left rear side.” This could indicate a book-style design, but conflicting reports suggest Apple might also explore a clamshell, Galaxy Flip-style design or a wrap-around concept similar to Huawei’s Mate Xs 2.
Apple has reportedly been experimenting with multiple prototypes, so it remains unclear which approach will make it to the final product. The company also holds patents for foldable displays with innovative hinge mechanisms and drop protection, but specific details are still under wraps.
Battery and Camera
The battery capacity is rumored to be 5000mAh, using two stainless-steel-cased batteries with a 3D-stacked design. However, past reports have indicated that Apple has faced challenges in developing thinner batteries for foldable devices, raising questions about these claims.
On the camera front, the iPhone Fold will allegedly feature a front-facing camera with Apple’s ultra-thin Meta Lens technology, previously rumored for the iPhone 17. The rear cameras are said to combine a hybrid glass-plastic structure for the main and ultra-wide lenses.
Potential Release Date
The foldable iPhone could debut as early as fall 2026, according to the leak. This lines up with earlier rumors, though some reports suggest a delay to 2027. There’s also speculation that alongside the iPhone Fold, Apple is working on a foldable iPad or MacBook, potentially launching in 2027 or 2028.
Proceed with Caution
While these rumors align with some earlier reports, it’s important to note that the source lacks a verifiable track record. Social media has made it easier for unverified information to spread, and much of what’s shared may simply repackage existing rumors.
Apple’s entry into the foldable market is still shrouded in mystery, and it could be years before we see a final product—if Apple decides to proceed at all. Until then, stay skeptical and keep an eye out for more credible updates.
