Apple’s GenAI Plans Could Change, With Gemini AI Potentially Featured on iPhones

Last two years have observed a rapid progress in Gen AI. Slowly and gradually, it is becoming a part of tech gadgets like smartphones and laptops. In contrast to Apple, the tech giants like Google, Microsoft, and Samsung have already introduced Gen AI features on their devices. Apple is currently working on it.

According to Bloomberg’s report, the Cupertino-based tech giant is in talks with Google to incorporate Gemini AI into iPhones. Besides this, Apple has a meeting with OpenAI as well. It seems like Apple’s AI model is not competitive enough as compared to the ones offered by rivals. Employees at the company have been experimenting with Apple GPT, an internal chatbot, as well as Ajax, a big language model. “Apple’s AI technology remains weak to tools from Google and other competitors,” claims Gurman.

During a call with investors, Tim Cook disclosed that the company had a significant opportunity in the GenAI market. But since the business is falling behind, it would make more sense to collaborate with another business in order to license their AI model for use on the iPhone. Recently, DarwinAI was acquired by the IT giant with headquarters in Cupertino.

Well, the partnership between Apple and Google could be a gamechanger for Google. There are no details regarding the branding and implementation of the AI model in iPhones. However, we can expect features like writing essays or summaries, image generation, and other such tasks. These activities will be carried out via an external provider or cloud. With this deal, Gemini AI will have access to two billion users of iPhones.

The AI business may experience significant disruption if a merger between Apple and Google is finalized. According to Bloomberg, the collaboration won’t be revealed prior to the June annual WWDC.
