Apple’s New Software Update Fixes A Major Threat That Could Steal Data, Passwords, and Other Accesses

Apple is rolling out a new software update for iOS, macOS, and watchOS devices. This new software update is a bit different from the usual others. According to The Verge, this update fixes “a bug that security researchers at Citizen Lab say was very likely exploited to allow government agencies to install spyware into the phones of journalists, lawyers, and activists.”

This bug self activates itself and is “capable of stealing data, passwords, and activating a phone’s microphone or camera.”

The company highly recommends everyone to update to the latest software update, which is 14.8 for iOS, Big Sur 11.6 for macOS, and 7.6.2 for watchOS.

According to the source, the team at Citizen Lab first discovered this bug when their smartphones were running iOS 14.6. This secret break-in was made possible via a bug in Apple’s CoreGraphics system. It then self activates “when the phone tried to use a function related to GIFs after it received a text message containing a malicious file.”

The new software update also fixes a security issue with WebKit for iOS and macOS Big Sur.

The company suggests updating asap.
