Apple’s October event for new Macs and iPads what to expect?
Apple is apparently planning new hardware presentations for October. Updates are expected for MacBook Pro, iMac and Mac mini with the new M4 chip as well as new iPad models. What could the tech giant present soon?
New Apple hardware on the way
Autumn is traditionally the time for new Apple products. After the new iPhone was presented in September, rumors now point to another event in October. The focus is likely to be primarily on Mac computers and iPads, which will receive an upgrade to the new M4 chip.
When exactly the event will take place is still unclear. In recent years, Apple has usually held its October events on a Monday or Tuesday. Possible dates would therefore be the 16th/17th. or the 23rd/24th. October. An official announcement is expected in the next few weeks.
MacBook Pro and iMac with M4 chip
How CNET reports, Apple fans can look forward to numerous new products. The 14- and 16-inch versions of the MacBook Pro will be equipped with the M4 chip.
You can expect the 14-inch MacBook Pro to get the same M4 processor found in the iPad Pro, while the 16-inch MacBook Pro will get M4 Pro and M4 Max versions of the chip. CNET
However, the design of the laptops is unlikely to change much. The iMac is also due for a chip upgrade to M4. What will be particularly interesting here is whether Apple will finally replace the Lightning ports on peripheral devices such as keyboards and mice with USB-C.
Mac mini and iPad updates
In addition to the new processor, the Mac mini could even receive a complete redesign. According to rumors, it will be significantly more compact and will be about the size of an Apple TV box. When it comes to iPads, the iPad mini and the entry-level model are probably due for an update.
A faster chip, improved cameras and new colors are expected for the iPad mini. The cheapest iPad model could also get a performance boost.
Apple intelligence and further expectations
It is still unclear whether Apple will also use this opportunity to present its new AI offensive “Apple Intelligence”. The first features are scheduled to launch in October with iOS 18.1. It would therefore make sense to link this to the hardware presentation.
However, updates for the Mac Studio and Mac Pro are not expected. These high-end devices usually follow a longer update cycle. The MacBook Air is also unlikely to receive an upgrade until spring 2024.
