Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone is now available in France

The use of smartphones as an option for payments is advancing and evolving with time. Several tech companies have offered different and innovative solutions for online payments. The same is the case with Apple’s Tap to Pay on the iPhone. The company debuted this service in February 2022. Initially, the service was introduced to US users. Using this service, payments can be made with the help of an iPhone.

It can be used by independent sellers, small traders, and large retailers. It is a contactless payment method that accepts payments from debit cards, credit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets. Notably, the transactions are encrypted and the company has no information or details about the purchase. Surprisingly, the Tap to Pay on iPhone service requires no hardware or credit card machine. It is based on NFC technology that authenticates contactless payments. It has support for PIN entry as well.

Tap to Pay on iPhone arrives in France

Jennifer Bailey, Apple Vice President of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, stated, “We are very thrilled to offer Tap to Pay on iPhone to merchants throughout France so that they can now have a simple, secure, and secure way to process contactless payments while benefiting from the power, safety, and accessibility of the iPhone.” “With more than 90% of bank cards in France featuring contactless technology and a growing use of contactless payments, businesses will be able to authorize payments from consumers with just a tap on their iPhone.”

Right now, the service is supported by the banking group BPCE (Banques Populaires, Caisses d’Epargne, and Payplug), along with Adyen, myPOS, Revolut, SumUp, Viva Wallet, and Worldline. According to the company, more bodies like BNP Paribas, Crédit Coopératif, Market Pay, Stancer, and Stripe will soon join the list.

One thing to notice here is that the service is supported on the ‌‌‌‌iPhone‌‌‌‌ XS or newer models. The transaction process is quite simple. Open the app, enter the sale, and hand over the iPhone to the consumer. The consumer will make the payment by selecting the preferred contactless payment method. After rollouts in the Netherlands, Australia, Taiwan, Brazil, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom earlier this year, France is now the eighth region to implement Tap to Pay.
