Arlo Increases the Prices Up to 2 euros more per month

Arlo is again increasing the prices of its camera subscriptions. From February 2025, customers must expect surcharges of up to 2 euros per month. The price adjustment follows a previous increase at the beginning of 2024 and is causing dissatisfaction among users.

Camera subscriptions are becoming more expensive

Home security is becoming increasingly important, and many consumers are turning to modern technologies like Arlo security cameras. But now users of these products have to prepare for rising costs. The manufacturer has announced the prices for its Cloud storage subscriptions to increase again starting February 1, 2025. This decision comes just a few months after a price adjustment at the beginning of 2024, which is unlikely to be met with much joy by many customers. The increase affects different tariff models differently.

Arlo justifies the price increase with new features

Arlo informed its customers in an email about the price increases and justified them with improvements to the service. The announced innovations include an app widget and support for multiple user accounts, which are intended to expand the user experience. The company also highlights improved customer service, supported by a new chatbot and a revamped customer portal.

The single camera subscription “Arlo Secure Single Camera” increases from 4.99 euros to 5.99 euros per month. For those who use the “Arlo Secure Multi Camera” package, the price will now be 12.99 euros instead of the previous 11.99 euros. The premium offer “Arlo Secure Plus Multi Camera” is being increased the most, with its price rising from 16.99 euros to 18.99 euros.

Nevertheless, the repeated price increase is likely to be met with little understanding by many users. Finally, Arlo cameras rely heavily on the paid cloud subscription for their functionality. Many essential features, such as activity zones or packet detection, are limited or not functional at all without a subscription.

Subscription-free alternatives on the market

For consumers interested in subscription-free options, there are now some good alternatives. Manufacturers such as Eufy, Reolink and Hikvision are increasingly relying on local storage options that do not require monthly fees.

Arlo was founded in 2014 as a subsidiary of Netgear and has been an independent company since 2018. The company specializes in wireless security cameras and is considered one of the market leaders in this segment. However, the current price increase may prompt some customers to look for cheaper alternatives.
