According to some recent pieces of information, the company wants to debut a subscription-based model for Alexa. However, rumors have it that the corporation is at odds with itself and that development has been difficult.

The updated version of Alexa is more conversational and personal. It is reportedly based on a new large language model (LLM). According to a report shared by Business Insider, the new version will debut as a paid service. It will be called “Alexa Plus.” Internally, it is referred to as “Remarkable Alexa.” According to details, the new version will be launched on June 30. Currently, the company is testing the new version with 15,000 external customers. Interestingly, the current version of Alexa is reportedly termed Classic Alexa.

The launch is just a few months away. In between these, the company claims that the new version is not up to par. The tests reveal that the voice assistant is more personalized and conversational; however, it sometimes generates incorrect results. According to the report, the company is perhaps completely modifying the technology stack behind Alexa. But this has caused internal strife among the Classic Alexa crew, who wish to safeguard their work. Meanwhile, safeguarding that work is adding layers of complexity to the IT stack.

In addition to this, some employees are even questioning the subscription-based nature of Alexa Plus. The employees wonder how the company will compel users to pay for an updated version of Alexa when they are paying for other company services. Given the nature of these concerns, there might be a delay in the launch of Alexa Plus. According to a source close to the situation, Alexa could face difficulties if this does not generate revenue.
