The Asus ROG Phone 8 series has been modified to make it more enjoyable to use as a daily driver. Asus set out to create not just the greatest gaming phone but also an all-around flagship. The phone comes in three (actually four) models, with the majority of the variations being in appearance.
As compared to the 10.3mm and 239g ROG Phone 7, the ROG Phone 8 weighs 225g and measures 8.9mm. The LPTO display panel of the ROG Phone 8 measures 6.78 inches. It offers 2,500 nits of peak brightness and a refresh rate of 165Hz. As compared to the 173.0 x 77.0 Rog Phone 7, the new model is a bit smaller at 163.8mm tall and 76.8mm wide.
According to the company, it is the first water-resistant phone that is IP68-certified. Cooling is the top priority for gaming phones; hence, waterproofing is minimal to nonexistent. Convective cooling was made possible by the AeroActive Portal on the ROG Phone 7 Pro; conduction cooling is used in the 8-series phones instead.
The smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset with 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. The base configuration is 12/256GB, and the middle one is 16/512GB. It accompanies a 5,500mAh battery with support for 15W Qi charging and 65W HyperCharge. The phone can be fully charged in 39 minutes. Moreover, the battery is accompanied by optimized hardware to offer long battery life.
The rear camera island comprises a 50MP main camera, a 13MP 120° ultra-wide camera, and a 32MP camera with a 3x telephoto lens. Furthermore, it features 10x Hyper Clarity AI zooming, up to 30x digital zoom, and super Night Mode. In some markets, the smartphone will feature a macro camera rather than a telephoto one. The ROG Phone 8 Pro and 8 Pro Edition models, on the other hand, will feature tele cameras in all markets.
The 32MP sensor on the new front-facing camera is automatically binning down to 8MP (1.4µm binning). With a wider lens of 90° (compared to 73°), it is more suitable for group photos. Furthermore, the smartphone is integrated with AI to help users while gaming. Microsoft Phone Link is fully supported on the 8-series. Not only can you drag and drop files and copy and paste between your PC and phone, but you can also stream apps and mirror your screen.
The Asus ROG Phone 8 comes with an RGB backlit ROG logo on the rear and is available in two colors: Phantom Black and Rebel Grey. The single-color option for the ROG Phone 8 Pro and Pro Edition is Phantom Black, and both models include a tiny OLED display on the back. Sales of the ROG Phone 8 will begin in Q1 in the US market; however, the phone is available for pre-order in the European market.
