AVM delivers new update for fiber and cable routers

AVM is busy again. Just the day before yesterday there was a laboratory update for four FritzBox models. Now it is the turn of the cable and fiber optic routers. Improvements and adjustments are being delivered again. AVM

Laboratory update for four models

While AVM already distributed an update for two of its fiber optic models last week, it is now the turn of the last router in the series. In addition, the manufacturer’s cable routers are also receiving new firmware via the laboratory. A new version of FritzOS 7.90 is now available for the following devices:

  • FritzBox 5530 Fiber
  • FritzBox 6690 Cable
  • FritzBox 6660 Cable
  • FritzBox 6591 Cable

Second Fiber-Box receives FritzOS 7.90

With the update, the FritzBox 5530 Fiber now finally receives FritzOS 7.90 and with it all the new functions, improvements and bug fixes that the new version of the firmware brings with it. The highlights of this initial update include the following features:

  • New online monitor provides information on the utilization of the Internet connection and the utilization of individual network devices
  • Internet: IPv6 data can now also be transmitted via a Wireguard® VPN tunnel
  • Mesh: Graphic overview with new design and additional functions
  • Push Service: revised design and more comfort

Troubleshooting cable routers

The cable routers FritzBox 6690, 6660 and 6591 had already received FritzOS 7.90 with earlier updates. The current update mainly provides bug fixes, although these vary from box to box. However, the following problems have been solved in all three models:

  • Fixed In certain scenarios, a home network device may have been assigned 2 active ULAs (Unique Local Address, IPv6)
  • Fixed: Checking the Internet connection on the cable connection was successful, even though the FRITZ!Box had not yet been set up via the provider’s activation portal (FRITZ!Box Cable only)
  • Fixed Under certain circumstances, IPSec VPN connections already set up as “company dial-in” did not work (FRITZ!Box Cable 6690, 6670, 6660, 6591 only)
  • Fixed When importing the settings (exporting the data of a FRITZ!Box with only one 2.4 GHz band) to a target box with 2.4/5/6 GHz, no SSID was adopted
  • Fixed The NAS function could not be deactivated

The complete list of all new features that come with the update to the four Fritzboxes can be found as always at AVM on the website.

Installing the update

The update can also be downloaded from AVM download and install it manually. The more convenient option, however, is to install it directly via the router interface, which can be accessed under fritz.box. Since this is a laboratory update, it is advisable – as always when installing beta software – to create a backup of the system beforehand.
