AVM now expands the compatibility list
AVM continues to work on new functions and improvements for the FritzSmart Gateway. Owners of such a device can now receive an update that, among other things, now offers support for new devices; the compatibility list has also been expanded again.
Connection to Zigbee devices
But that’s not all that the update brings. We have taken a closer look at the new version FritzOS 7.61 and will explain to you at the end of this article how you can get the new software version as quickly as possible. The new FritzOS 7.61 feature update is now available for the AVM gateway. This device can be used as a connector for smart home devices that use the Zigbee standard. For example, you can integrate LED lamps from third-party suppliers into your Fritz network and manage them together with FritzDECT accessories. With the software update to version 7.61, AVM is now bringing improvements to the operation of Zigbee buttons. AVM also optimizes energy consumption by switching off the Zigbee radio power when no Zigbee device is registered. But most importantly for all users of smart home devices: There is an extended Compatibility list with support for additional Zigbee devices added. Unfortunately, there is currently no overview of the newly added devices; you can only view the list of all supported devices. Nothing has been announced about further changes so far. However, AVM always recommends installing updates promptly, as they may also contain security-related changes.
Update: 7.61 Release date 15.07.2024
- New:Support for additional Zigbee devices and expansion of the compatibility list (avm.de/service/zigbee/)
- Improved: Operation of Zigbee buttons
- Improved:Reduction of energy consumption by switching off the Zigbee radio power when no Zigbee device is registered
How the update works
Since the FritzSmart Gateway is an additional device, the update simply runs as an online update via the connected Fritz network. To do this, go to “fritz.smartgateway” in the web browser of your choice and log in via the interface if necessary. Then look for the “Assistants” item and select “Update” or “Update firmware”. The latest version is then automatically downloaded and installed. The process can take a few minutes.
