AVM will start in 2025 with the first Fritz Labor update for 5690 Pro routers

AVM has now also rung in the new year with an update in the Fritz laboratory. The FritzBox 5690 Pro receives a number of improvements that provide a preview of the upcoming FritzOS 8.02. Users can now test and give feedback.

News from the Fritz laboratory

The new year begins for FritzBox users with a new experimental lab update. AVM has now brought the FritzBox 5690 Pro back into the Fritz Laboratory program. This experimental platform serves as a test bed for upcoming features and improvements.

The current laboratory version is FritzOS 8.01-117964. This release already includes some improvements that are expected to be included in the upcoming 8.02 update, scheduled to launch in early spring. Owners of the FritzBox 5690 Pro now have the opportunity to test these innovations in advance and give valuable feedback. AVM says the improvements are focused on different areas. Several issues have been resolved in the Internet area, including:

  • Difficulties in transmitting the preferred user for MyFritz Internet access
  • IPSec VPN connections failed
  • Problem with empty emails via the push service or MyFritzNet

An important improvement concerns Internet speed and call quality with simultaneous data traffic in both directions. This is likely to be particularly relevant for users who frequently transfer large amounts of data or rely on a stable connection for video conferences.

For interoperability with Linux systems, support for the EDNS0 extension for local domains such as “fritz.box” has been implemented. In the area of telephony, dialing problems in Austria with certain number lines have been resolved and the general stability of telephone calls has been increased.

Test phase and feedback

The laboratory version is now available for download on the AVM website ready. Interested users can install the update via the settings of their FritzBox 5690 Pro or download it manually. AVM expressly encourages users to test the new functions extensively and provide feedback. It is important to emphasize that the laboratory version is experimental software.

Users should be aware that errors may still occur and the stability may not correspond to that of a final version.
