Ben Stiller Could Return to TV in HBO’s New Series “The Band”

For the past few years, Ben Stiller has focused on working behind the scenes, directing and executive producing the hit Apple TV+ series Severance. But it looks like Stiller might soon be stepping back in front of the camera. According to Deadline, Stiller has signed on to star in The Band, a comedy-drama that dives into the world of the music industry.

In The Band, Stiller will play Oscar, a talent mogul whose career is in shambles after a scandal. Tasked with creating a new act to save both his career and his reputation, Oscar’s journey centers around forming a boy band reminiscent of One Direction. The character is said to channel Simon Cowell vibes, blending charm with a flair for drama.

Although HBO hasn’t officially greenlit the series yet, the involvement of Stiller—both as the lead actor and as an executive producer through his Red Hour Films studio—signals strong confidence in the project. If it moves forward, it will air on HBO and Max.

The series is co-created by Sarah-Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers, the duo behind the acclaimed TBS comedy Search Party. Both will also serve as executive producers and showrunners. Media Res, the production company responsible for The Morning Show and Severance, is collaborating with Red Hour to bring The Band to life.

So far, Ben Stiller is the only confirmed cast member. Stay tuned for updates on whether The Band gets the green light and when it might hit screens. For now, fans can only hope to see Stiller’s return to TV as Oscar in what promises to be both a hilarious and heartfelt look at the highs and lows of the music business.
