Blue Origin is preparing for the first operational mission of his new satellite platform Blue Ring – and gets support from Scout Space and a AI -supported sensor called OWL (owl). It starts in 2026.
The start is planned for spring 2026 and is intended to bring the sensor into the geostationary transfer orbit (GTO), such as Blue Origin announced. From there, OWL will switch to the geostationary orbit (geo), where he can independently recognize, pursue and classify satellites, space scrap and other missiles. The AI also takes over the classification of potential threats or anomalies – an ability that is important both militarily and civil.
Blue Ring is a modular satellite bus with high payload capacity: the system can transport up to 4 tons of freight and 13 payloads. Travel to the moon or Mars are also conceivable with the platform. The wearer for the use will be Blue Origin’s new Glenn heavy -duty, which was successfully launched for the first time in January 2025. With the use of the OWL sensor, Blue Origin wants to strengthen its position in the field of national security missions. This is currently particularly important because space is increasingly regarded as a strategically relevant space. Scout CEO Philip Hover-Smoot emphasizes the importance of cooperation:
No single company can achieve space superiority alone. We look forward to working with Blue Origin on this historical mission. Scout CEO Philip Hover-Smoot.
