Bungie soon reveals gameplay to marathon: after a long waiting time, the Destiny developer will show his PvP extraction shooter in action on April 12th. As a foretaste there is a mysterious teaser with robots and a pink cyborg cat.
On April 12, 2025, Bungie will finally present gameplay material for his upcoming extraction shooter marathon. The live stream starts at 7:00 p.m. German time on Twitch and YouTube. After the original announcement in May 2023, the project remained silent for a long time, but now it finally takes on more concrete forms.
A teaser trailer published as “Save the Date” gives at least first insights into the colorful to neon-colored style of the game: You can see a figure that runs through a brightly illuminated jungle and is persecuted by a kind of robot or mech. Particularly striking: a cute pink cat that rolls together next to the presumably dying figure. The exact role of the animal is currently unclear. “Save the Date” trailer for the new bungie shooter marathon
With marathon, Bungie brings back a legendary game series. The original first-person shooter was released in 1994 and received two sequels. As the recently published teaser trailer shows, the new marathon will be located in the same universe, but will reinterpret as a “sci-fi-PvP extraction shooter” with “developing, persistent zones”.
The scene is the mysterious Planet Tau Ceti IV, on the player in the role of cybernetic mercenary, so -called “runner”. These were specially developed to survive in the harsh surrounding area of the planet. As a tribute to the fans and preparation, Bungie published the original marathon on Steam for free a year ago.
The development of the new marathon was not without difficulty: such overshadowed mass layoffs in Bungie and the discharge of the previous project manager Christopher Barrett the development. Barrett was released with employees after alleged “disturbing communication” and then sued Sony to more than $ 200 million (around 183 million euros).
The original marathon trilogy is considered pioneering for the development of narrative first-person shooters. When Bungie was still an independent studio, Marathon created one of the first shooters with a complex background story. The games introduced innovative concepts such as dual-wielding of weapons and advanced AI allies long before they became the standard.
