Season 2: Teasers and Content Details

Ahead of its January 28, 2025 launch, Activision has been teasing content for Season 2 across social media with the tagline, “Will you be the hunter or the hunted?” The promotional images hint at a new hooded Operator who seems set to be the season’s headlining character.

The unnamed Operator features a striking look: a black leather hood and tactical vest adorned with what appear to be explosives, paired with a black mask and glowing purple eyes. Armed with dual blades featuring purple detailing and a matching black Tanto SMG, this Operator is expected to be the initial unlockable reward in the Season 2 battle pass. For players who purchase the $30 BlackCell seasonal upgrade, a premium variant of this character will likely be included.

Community Reaction and AI Controversy

Fans have been analyzing the teaser images for hidden clues, though some have raised concerns about the use of AI-generated assets in the promotional materials. Issues such as weapon triggers seemingly phasing through the Operator’s hand, and unrealistic smoke effects, have sparked debate within the Call of Duty community.

One glaring detail in the images shows Operators wall-running on skyscrapers with Warzone’s Urzikstan in the background. While Black Ops 6 introduced the Omnimovement system, wall-running hasn’t yet returned to the franchise. The “boots on the ground” gameplay style remains preferred by most players, though a small but vocal group continues to advocate for advanced movement mechanics.

This isn’t the first time fans have criticized AI-generated content in Call of Duty marketing. During Season 1’s CODmas celebrations, AI-generated rewards and promotional materials resulted in backlash, labeled by some players as “AI-Slop.” Despite this criticism, Activision’s parent company, Microsoft, continues to invest in AI technologies, and its influence on the franchise’s marketing appears to be growing.

On a positive note, eagle-eyed Reddit users recently spotted hints of classic weapons like the PPSh and FAL in teaser imagery. Treyarch has teased the return of fan-favorite SMGs from Call of Duty Zombies, and the PPSh could be among the weapons making a comeback.

Zombies Mode: New Map and Rumored Crossovers

Season 2 will also introduce a new Zombies map called “The Tomb.” The map was revealed during Treyarch’s 115 Day celebration and is confirmed to launch with the season. While some Season 2 content has been delayed to allow developers to focus on bug fixes and anti-cheat improvements, this hasn’t impacted the release of the Zombies map.

Rumors of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) crossover have also been circulating, fueled by leaks suggesting that weapons inspired by the franchise—such as dual katanas, a bo staff, sais, and a skateboard—could be included in Season 2. Call of Duty is no stranger to unexpected crossovers, having previously featured events with Godzilla, Donnie Darko, Rambo, The Walking Dead, and most recently, Squid Game.

What’s Next?

Season 2 of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone officially launches on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. With new Operators, maps, weapons, and perhaps even a TMNT-inspired crossover, there’s plenty for fans to look forward to.
