Capcom Shares New Details on Monster Hunter Wilds Performance Modes

Capcom’s highly anticipated Monster Hunter Wilds is almost here, and the team is still dropping exciting updates about what players can expect. The latest reveal? A Balanced mode is coming to Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, in addition to the previously announced Quality and Performance modes.

In a recent X (Twitter) post, Capcom confirmed that the Balanced mode will run at 40 FPS and is tailored for players with 120Hz TVs. Previously, Capcom had only mentioned this mode for the PlayStation 5 Pro, so this news comes as a welcome surprise for Xbox Series X and PS5 users.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what each mode offers:

  • Quality Mode: Targets 30 FPS with higher resolution and enhanced visual effects.
  • Performance Mode: Aims for 60 FPS to deliver smoother gameplay at the cost of some visual fidelity.
  • Balanced Mode: Runs at 40 FPS on 120Hz TVs, striking a middle ground between performance and visuals.

Monster Hunter Wilds is shaping up to be a demanding game in terms of hardware. To help players prepare, Capcom has released a benchmark tool for PC users, allowing them to test various settings before the game’s official launch. The developers have also assured fans that the game’s performance across all platforms will be even better than what they experienced during the beta phase.

40 FPS Modes: A Rare But Welcome Option

While most console games stick to two standard modes—Quality for visuals and Performance for framerate—Balanced modes at 40 FPS are still relatively uncommon. This is largely due to the fact that many players don’t yet have 4K TVs with 120Hz refresh rates. However, for those who do, a 40 FPS mode offers an excellent compromise between visual quality and smoother gameplay.

Some games, like Fallout 4 and Starfield from Bethesda Game Studios, also feature optional 40 FPS modes on Xbox Series X|S, giving players more control over how they experience the game.

Monster Hunter Wilds is set to launch on February 28, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5. Stay tuned for more updates, news, reviews, and guides as we get closer to release!
