Changes for FritzBoxes with 5G/LTE

AVM is particularly busy at the end of the year and releases one update after the other before the holidays. Now there are new functions for the FritzBoxes 6850 5G and 6850 LTE as well as numerous improvements. We took a look at the new firmware.

FritzOS 8.0 for other devices

AVM is finally launching version FritzOS 8.0 for these two FritzBox models. The update brings with it some interesting innovations, including in the areas of mobile communications and the user interface. The update also serves to improve system stability and also includes one or two bug fixes. At the same time, putting SIM cards into operation, especially from resale providers who use national roaming, is made much easier.

This process, which was often frustrating for users, should now be made smoother and more user-friendly. This not only means saving time, but also a wider selection of providers that you can use easily. Meanwhile, AVM has on its website all information provided for the new updates. The FritzBox can also be updated online via the user interface.

To do this, start the user interface in the Internet browser under “fritz.box” and use the assistant to search for an update. There you will find information about the new version under “Update” or “Update firmware”. You confirm the download and the installation then runs automatically.

These features are new

  • Internet access: Save mobile data volume when a Wi-Fi hotspot is available
  • User interface: Graphical representation of the connections on the overview (home page)
  • New online monitor provides information about the utilization of the Internet connection and the utilization of individual network devices
  • Internet: IPv6 data can now also be transmitted via a Wireguard VPN tunnel
  • Mesh: Graphical overview of all devices connected to the FRITZ!Box in a new design and with additional functions
  • Push Service: revised design and more convenience
