An important Chinese telecom company, China Mobile, has announced the commercial debut of their 5G-A (5G Advanced) network, or 5.5G. According to fresh details, the OPPO Find X7 series will be the first smartphone series that will feature support for 5.5G.
As compared to 5G, 5.5G is significantly improved. It offers 10 times improved network capacity, millisecond-level latency, and peak downlink rates in the tens of gigabits per second. This results in more responsive online gaming, seamless streaming, and quicker downloads. It will improve connection scale that will enable a low-cost trillion-level Internet of Things (IoT) network. Furthermore, it will provide wider coverage by taking into account the air and space networks.
According to China Mobile, its role is quite dominating in the development of 5G-A standards. The company asserts that in 2024 they will initiate the world’s largest commercial deployment of the new network in over 300 cities. Within 2024, the company intends to promote the debut of around twenty 5G-A compatible smartphones.
China Mobile has set up 5G-A demonstration halls throughout the country in order to promote the new network. Visitors using the OPPO Find X7 Ultra can stop by these hallways to get a personal look at the 5.5G network. According to Gao Tongqing, vice president of China Mobile, this launch would expedite the creation of new information infrastructure and unleash the full potential of 5G technology. The company intends to collaborate with chip vendors and manufacturers to secure the broad deployment of 5.5G in China.
Reportedly, major metropolitan cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou are listed in the first 100 cities that will receive the commercial 5G-A networks.
