Chinese Sina Weibo Beats Twitter In Number Of Users

More people are now using Chinese Micro-blogging platform Sina Weibo As compared to Twitter

After Chinese Phones defeated Samsung and Apple for being top phones in their own home, Now it the time for other platforms.

According to the first quarter results, Sina Webio now have 340 million monthly active users and 30% up previous year. The report published by News sources reveals that now Sina Webio is used by 154 million people daily, 91% of the users come from mobile devices.

In comparison, renowned social platform Twitter which is blocked by Chinese government in China has around 328 million active monthly users.

“Our relentless focus to build the best social media experience in China is reflected in Weibo’s strong performance,” Gaofei Wang, Weibo CEO, said in a statement.

“Looking ahead, we continue to see strong momentum, as we further optimise Weibo to share, discover and consume information, especially focusing on mobile, social and video environment.”

The platform

China has huge population 1.37 billion in 2015 estimated, according to the statistics published on China Internet Network Information Centre, CINIC, China has 731 million internet users with more than 90% of them can access internet on their mobiles.

Sina Webio is the most popular social micro blogging platform and it is preferred place for users in News and TV and Media sectors.

Sina Weibo also launched its own live streaming app, Yizhibo, nicknamed “Yi” during last year.

The Difference

Sina Webio is used majorly in China or Chinese abroad, However, Twitter is the platform used all over the world. The number of users doesn’t reflect any significant achievement where there is no competition in the market. Twitter would remain popular around the globe but what it could have become if Chinese government would have let Twitter provide services in Chinese market.
