Coca-Cola Termed as the Largest Plastic Polluting Brand of the World

For a second year, Coca Cola was referred to as the largest plastic polluting brand in a global audit of the plastic waste carried out by the Break Free From Plastic global movement.

The big soda firm was accountable for creating more plastic litter than the next top 3 polluters combined.

The audit was conducted by more than 72,000 volunteers who counted the plastic on beaches, streets neat their offices, waterways, and homes in the one-day cleanup activity that was done in September in 37 nations.

Coke was held responsible for 11,372 pieces of plastic followed by Nestle, PepsiCo, Mondelez International—the makers of the snack brands like Ritz, Nutter Butter, Oreo and Nabisco and Unilever.

While responding to the questions about the brand audit, Coca-Cola said that any time the packaging of the firm lands up in the oceans or anywhere that it should not be is not acceptable for the company too. It further said that in alliance with others, Coca Cola is working on addressing this critical global problem, both for helping to turn off the tap in terms of plastic waste entering the oceans and to help in cleaning up the current issues.

As per the statement of Coke, they are making local investments in every market for increasing the recovery of bottles and cans and recently announced the launch in Vietnam of an industry supported by a packaging recovery organization, as well as a bottler-led investment of $19 million in the Philippines in a new food-grade recycling facility.

Coke is striving to speed up the key innovations that would help in curbing the reduce waste, which includes the new enhanced recycling technologies that enable the recycling of the poor quality PET plastic, often subjected to the landfill or incineration, back to high-quality food packaging material.
