Copilot will become an integral part of the app in January
Microsoft is integrating its AI assistant Copilot deeper into Outlook for Mac. In the future, users will be able to access the AI functions directly from the email application. The innovations should be made available in January 2025.
More AI power for Mac users
One of the main innovations is the placement of the Copilot icon in the left navigation bar of Outlook, for quick access. There it can now be found in the immediate vicinity of contacts and calendar. This allows users to quickly access AI features without leaving the email application.
Microsoft announces in a comprehensive article in the tech community that the integration goes one step further. Copilot is also embedded in the Mac menu bar. This allows users to use AI support system-wide, regardless of which application they are currently working in.
More copilot for everyone
These extensions are part of Microsoft’s strategy to integrate Copilot into as many applications as possible. Since launching the AI assistant, the company has built it into numerous products such as Windows, Edge and the Office suite.
The new Copilot features are currently in the preview phase and are scheduled to be rolled out worldwide during January 2025. Administrators are recommended to keep an eye on their application update cycles to test new features before widespread rollout.
Copilot as a standalone app
Microsoft also allows Copilot to be installed as a standalone app. Users can install the application as an app via their preferred browser (Edge, Chrome or Safari) and place it directly in the Dock.
This is how Copilot can be installed as an app
- Edge: Go to the URL you want to create an app from (ex. https://copilot.microsoft.com/onboarding), click the menu and select “Install this site as an app”. Give the application a name and click “Install”.
- Chrome: Similar to Edge, navigate to the URL, click the menu and select “Install this website as an app.”
- Safari: Go to the URL, click “File” at the top and select “Add to Dock.” Give the page a name and click Add.
