A year ago, the world looked full of hope to the vaccinations against Corona and the hoped-for return to normal. But at the beginning of 2022, it is clear: It did not or will not go that fast. And the cinema also switches to pandemic mode again. In other words: it will be postponed again. In the first months and now even years of the pandemic, movie postponements were the order of the day. In other words: some strips had to wait a year or more because new corona waves repeatedly forced the cinemas to close. Last summer the situation normalized to some extent, but now we are back where we were before – namely with closed or restricted cinemas and film studios that prefer to wait and see how Omikron develops.
Specifically, this means that there is another “prominent” victim: the Spider-Man spin-off Morbius. The Sony Pictures flick with Jared Leto in the lead was supposed to start at the end of January 2022, but the film studio decided this was not a good time to get people to go to the cinema. The reason is of course the current global wave of Omikron-related Covid-19 cases. The new date is April 1, 2022.
Like the Hollywood industry paper Variety reported, it is not the first time that the Spider-Man offshoot (which presumably has connections to the Marvel Cinematic Universe) gets a new date: Originally it was planned that the film will be released in mid-2020, but this one too The appointment was rescheduled due to the pandemic. The current shift is now the fifth. But after the successes of Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sony undoubtedly wants to make sure that the vampire/scientist Morbius will also find his audience.
