CPU performance with X3D Turbo is less than 35%

When introducing the new mode, the motherboard manufacturer spoke of over a third more performance for some AMD CPUs. In a video in which the function is presented in more detail, people are suddenly talking about completely different and significantly lower numbers.

The introduction of the X3D Turbo Mode a good two weeks ago caused quite a stir. Motherboard manufacturer Gigabyte promised up to 35 percent more CPU performance through this new setting option in the BIOS. There was talk of “BIOS magic”. AMD X3D processors and the new Ryzen 9000 series chips should benefit. With the Agesa update to version 1.2.0.2a, the function is now available to all owners of an AM5 motherboard from Gigabyte. However, even during a first simple user test a week ago, nowhere near the promised performance improvements could be observed. The frame rate improvement in Forza Horizon 5 was around five percent.

Gigabyte suddenly gives different numbers

Now Gigabyte has on the Aorus Japan YouTube channel released a video in which the company takes a closer look at its X3D Turbo mode. Although there is still no explanation as to which settings are made in detail when the mode is activated, new figures are given regarding the expected increase in performance. However, they are quite far away from 35 percent.

The mode should lead to a performance increase of around 4.5 percent at a resolution of 1080p in Horizon Zero Dawn. For Tomb Raider we are talking about 5.01 percent. These are quite impressive values ​​for an adjustment to the system that can be made with a single click and is also available free of charge. However, the fact that Gigabyte had originally spoken of up to 35 percent more performance might now make some customers feel a little cheated. The press release in which the extremely large numbers were mentioned has now been taken offline.

Similar mode on Asus

Manufacturer Asus has its own version of the X3D Turbo Mode. There it’s just called “Turbo Game Mode”.
