Despite an improvement, Samsung’s chip revenue still lags behind Intel

The report on the revenue of the semiconductor industry for the second quarter of 2023 is out now. Considering Samsung, the report has some good points and some bad points for the company. According to the report, the South Korean tech giant Samsung’s revenue increased from $8.9 billion in Q1 2023 to $9.4 billion in Q2 2023. Well, it is 5.8% quarter-on-quarter growth. Despite this positive outcome, the company still ranks in second place. The first spot is grabbed by Intel, which has consistently occupied the leading position for the last consecutive quarters.

Reportedly, Intel’s revenue was $11.1 billion in Q1 2023. It observed an increase of up to $12.3 billion in Q2 2023. It amounts to a 10.1% quarter-on-quarter improvement. Surprisingly, Nvidia’s revenue increased, and the company jumped from ninth position to third in just a single quarter. During Q1 2023, Nvidia’s revenue was recorded at $5.4 billion. However, in the second quarter, the company was able to grow $7.9 billion in revenue. It is a massive 47.5% quarter-on-quarter improvement.

The fourth spot is held by Qualcomm. The company’s revenue decreased from $7.9 billion in Q1 to $7.2 billion in Q2. It is an indication of fewer smartphone sales. Broadcom was able to grab the fifth position with revenue of $6.1 billion. Besides Qualcomm, it is the other company whose revenue decreased. The sixth and seventh spots are occupied by SK Hynix and AMD. Each company has a revenue of $5.3 billion. According to Omdia’s report, overall, the semiconductor industry observed positive growth in the second quarter as compared to the first quarter. Reportedly, the market observed a growth rate of 3.8% and generated a total of $124.3 billion in revenue.
