Disney plans to invest $1.5 billion in Epic Games to create an entertainment universe

According to some recent pieces of information, Epic Games is set to receive a $1.5 billion investment from the Walt Disney Company. Reportedly, the two companies are partnering on a long-term project. The new project will focus on the creation of a new ”games and entertainment universe” that will increase the target audience for Disney’s “stories and experiences.”
Disney claims that the “new persistent universe” will provide players with a “world-class gaming experience,” compatibility with Fortnite, and an abundance of options to interact with and play with content, characters, and stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, and others. Additionally, it states that Unreal Engine will power all of this and that “players, gamers, and fans will be allowed to generate their own stories and events, express their enthusiasm in a distinctively Disney way, and exchange content in manners that they love.”
Based on these claims, it appears like Epic Games will be heavily incorporating Disney characters and stories into its games as part of this endeavor. Additionally, Epic Games might create video games for Disney. Currently, there are no concrete details about the future plans. There is no information about the impact of this investment on Epic Games’ valuation. For this reason, we can’t predict Disney’s stake in Epic Games. One thing to mention here is that Sony holds a 5% share and Tencent holds a 40% share in Epic Games.
