Disney+ prices are also increased in Germany

Disney+ is becoming more expensive again: After the official announcement for the USA, the streaming service is already hiding the new German prices in the small print of a current subscription campaign. All three tariffs rise by one to two euros.

Hidden price increase in Germany

Officially, Disney has not yet announced a price increase for Germany. The support document also contains no evidence of higher fees. But a look at the small print of a current subscription campaign on the Disney+website reveals: The prices in this country will also increase shortly. While Disney+ still promotes new contracts with lower prices of 2.99 euros, 5.99 euros and 9.99 euros for the first three months for standard (with advertising), standard (without advertising) and premium, 6.99 euros or 15.99 euros per month. These new tariffs show that all three subscription variants become more expensive.

These prices come to customers

The standard subscription with advertising rises from 5.99 euros to 6.99 euros per month – an increase of one euro. The standard subscription without advertising is raised from 9.99 euros to EUR 10.99. The premium subscription is most affected: In the future, users will have to pay 15.99 euros instead of the previous 13.99 euros – an increase of two euros per month.

The prices for annual subscriptions are not yet known. A look into the past shows that the last US price increase in August 2023 was also implemented in Germany in October 2023. Finally, the prices rose by up to 17 percent around a year ago. Previously, the monthly price for the premium subscription had been increased from 8.99 to 11.99 euros in 2022.

Price increases become the rule

By 2020, Disney+ only cost 6.99 euros a month and without advertising – at that time the new streaming service also had to gain a foothold. In the meantime, regular price adjustments are part of the company’s strategy in order to cover the increasing costs for content production and license fees, and the price was only screwed up in autumn 2024.

Existing customers must explicitly agree to a price increase before higher amounts are debited. Anyone who rejects the increase or does not react, their subscription ends automatically. At least this gives users the opportunity to consciously decide on the continuation of their subscription.
