Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos are no longer included in Amazon’s basic Prime Video package
Amazon Prime Video is an American over-the-top (OTT) video-on-demand streaming and rental service that may be accessed alone or as part of an Amazon Prime membership. Amazon has been introducing several changes to its Prime Video service lately. Recently, the company announced that it would be showing ads on Prime Video. The new changes have been implemented as of January 29, 2024. In addition to the cost of their Amazon Prime membership, customers must pay USD 2.99 a month if they wish to avoid seeing advertisements.
According to some recent pieces of information, Prime Video users won’t be able to enjoy the content with support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos in the near future. In simple words, they will have access to HDR10+ and Dolby 5.1 content. This information comes from several sources, like Forbes, ArsTechnica, and Filme. It seems like the company is narrowing down the options for basic plan users.
Forbes claims that “The TV displays its own confirmation messages to indicate that the show is playing in Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos while using the ad-free account. Nevertheless, the TV’s Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos pop-up boxes are persistently missing from the basic, with-ads account. The modification has been confirmed by the publication using a TCL TV. Conversely, 4K Filme confirmed the modification on LG and Sony TVs.
Previously, when the USD 2.99 per month premium pan was announced by the company, there were no details regarding the Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. After Forbes unveiled the information in an article, the company confirmed that basic plan users won’t have access to Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos content on Amazon. It appears that Amazon misled customers. Having said that, you will now need to pay the extra $2.99 per month if you want to use Amazon Prime Video with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
