EA Introduces Battlefield Labs to Shape the Future of the Franchise

EA has finally shared some exciting news about the future of the Battlefield franchise. Since ending post-launch support for Battlefield 2042, fans have eagerly awaited updates, especially after the game fell short of expectations. In response, Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella has taken over the franchise’s leadership, and now the company has revealed a bold new initiative: Battlefield Labs. This program aims to involve the community directly in shaping the next Battlefield game.
“I’ve been playing Battlefield long before I joined the team,” said Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn and Group GM for EA Studios Organization. “This game has so much potential. To find that potential, with us being pre-alpha, now is the time to test the experiences our teams have been building for our upcoming launch. Battlefield Labs empowers our teams to do that.”
What Is Battlefield Labs?
Battlefield Labs is designed to give players early access to test-drive “concepts and experiences” from pre-alpha builds of the next multiplayer game. The feedback from these tests will help guide the development teams at DICE, Motive, Criterion, and Ripple Effect, ensuring the next Battlefield installment delivers what players truly want.
The testing will focus on key aspects of the game, including:
- Core combat and destruction mechanics
- Weapons, vehicles, and gadgets
- Maps, game modes, and squad tactics
It’s worth noting these builds will be unfinished, and players participating will be under an NDA (non-disclosure agreement), meaning the tests won’t be public.
First Glimpse of the Next Battlefield
At the tail end of the development update video, EA teased a few short clips of the game in action. The footage showcased an urban environment packed with explosions and destruction, hinting at the immersive chaos Battlefield is known for.
How to Get Involved
EA has opened sign-ups for the Battlefield Labs platform. Initially, invites will be sent to a few thousand players in Europe and North America. Over time, EA plans to expand access to tens of thousands of players and include more regions.
If you’re eager to help shape the future of Battlefield, now is the time to get involved. With Battlefield Labs, EA is giving fans a direct hand in crafting the next evolution of the franchise.
