EA: No Dead Space 4 Expected in 2025

EA rejects pitch for “Dead Space 4”: The creators of the popular sci-fi horror series wanted to develop a fourth part, but the publisher showed no interest. Fans will have to do without a sequel for the time being. The reasons for the rejection remain unclear.

Developers fail with Dead Space 4 pitch

Electronic Arts (EA) has rejected a pitch for a fourth installment in the popular sci-fi horror series Dead Space. This comes from an interview that the original creators of the series – Glen Schofield, Christopher Stone and Bret Robbins – gave to the YouTuber Dan Allen Gaming have given.

We actually tried, the three of us. ‘Dead Space 4’. We’re talking about this year. Glen Schofield, co-creator of Dead Space

However, the pitch didn’t go far. EA simply stated that they were currently not interested. The developers showed understanding for the publisher’s decision and respected its assessment of the market situation.

Difficult times in the gaming industry

Christopher Stone pointed out that the gaming industry is currently going through a difficult period. “The industry is in a strange situation right now. People are very hesitant to take risks,” he explained. This reluctance is also reflected in EA’s decision not to start a new Dead Space project.

A possible reason for EA’s rejection could be the commercial failure of the 2023 Dead Space remake. Although the game was praised by critics and gamers alike, it apparently failed to meet the publisher’s sales expectations. According to reports, EA was hoping to sell five million units, but only an estimated two million were actually sold.

The rejection of a fourth part follows rumors about the suspension of plans for a remake of Dead Space 2. Although EA denied these reports, the future of the series seems uncertain. The publisher is currently concentrating more on successful multiplayer titles and annual sports games.

A spark of hope remains

Despite the current cancellation, there remains a glimmer of hope for the fans. Glen Schofield hinted that EA might be open to the idea again in the future. “Who knows, maybe one day,” he said in the interview. There is also the possibility that EA will commission one of its own studios to develop a new Dead Space title in the future.

Dead Space launched in 2008 and quickly became a cult classic of the survival horror genre. The series is characterized by its oppressive atmosphere and innovative game mechanics. A special feature is the strategic dismemberment system, in which players have to cut off opponents’ limbs in order to fight them effectively.

After the third part in 2013, the series became quiet until the remake of the first part was released in 2023. The remake was developed by Motive Studio, an internal EA studio that was not involved in the original trilogy.
