Elon Musk’s xAI Launches Grok 3 as X Hikes Premium+ Subscription Prices Again

Hours after Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, unveiled the latest version of its AI model, Grok 3, X has significantly increased the cost of its top-tier Premium+ subscription plan. This plan, which provides users access to the latest AI model, now costs nearly $50 per month.
According to X’s support page for premium plans, the monthly subscription price for Premium+ in the U.S. has been updated to $50, with the yearly price set at $350. However, there seems to be some confusion around pricing details, as the sign-up process shows different rates depending on the page.
This marks the second price hike for the Premium+ plan in just a few months. In December, X raised the subscription fee from $16 to $22 per month. With this latest update, users could now be paying over double their previous rate if they upgrade to the new plan.
It’s also worth noting that some features of Grok 3 won’t be included in the Premium+ plan. xAI has introduced a separate SuperGrok plan through the Grok app, which will offer advanced features like “deep search” and “reasoning” capabilities. Premium+ users will only have access to select functionalities.
The pricing inconsistency on X adds to the confusion. When attempting to sign up for the Premium+ plan, one user reported seeing a monthly cost of $39.83 ($477.95 annually) during the initial process, but the final checkout page listed an annual fee of $395. Similarly, while the support page mentions a $50 monthly price, the sign-up page quotes $48.40, and the checkout page shows $40 per month.
As xAI continues to roll out Grok 3 and its associated features, users will need to navigate these pricing discrepancies to decide whether the new plans deliver enough value to justify the cost.
