Everything We Know About the iPhone 17 Slim: Rumors, Specs, and Features

Apple might be gearing up to shake things up with its 2025 iPhone lineup. The big news? A potential new addition called the iPhone 17 Slim could replace the iPhone 17 Plus. Here’s what the rumors are saying about this super-thin smartphone and what you can expect if it launches next year.

A Slimmer, Sleeker iPhone

As the name suggests, the iPhone 17 Slim is rumored to be Apple’s thinnest iPhone yet. For context, the current thinnest iPhone, the SE, measures 0.29 inches, while the iPhone 16 is 0.31 inches.

Some sources suggest the iPhone 17 Slim could be as thin as 6mm (0.23 inches), possibly even thinner. However, this design is likely to push Apple toward new engineering solutions, such as a lighter titanium-aluminum alloy frame and a thinner battery.

Smaller Display, Big Impact

While thinner, the iPhone 17 Slim might also have a slightly smaller screen compared to the Plus model. Reports indicate a 6.6-inch display, just below the 6.7-inch screen on the iPhone 16 Plus.

Rumors also hint at a resolution of 2,740 x 1,260 and even the potential inclusion of ProMotion’s smooth 120Hz refresh rate—a feature currently found on Apple’s Pro models. However, whether ProMotion makes the cut for the Slim remains uncertain, as it could blur the line between regular and Pro devices.

eSIM Only: A Tradeoff for Thinness

To achieve its slim profile, the iPhone 17 Slim may ditch the physical SIM slot entirely, relying solely on eSIM technology. While this is unlikely to cause issues in markets like the U.S., where eSIMs are widely accepted, it could pose challenges in regions like China, where physical SIM cards are still the norm.

Additionally, Apple may debut its in-house modem for 5G connectivity in the Slim. However, some reports claim these modems might lack mmWave support, focusing instead on sub-6GHz bands for 5G.

Camera Design: Less Could Be More

The iPhone 17 Slim could feature a significant design change in its camera setup. To keep the device thin, Apple might reduce the number of rear cameras, possibly opting for a single Wide camera.

Other rumors suggest a new camera bar design stretching across the back of the phone, though this has been met with skepticism. More plausible updates include upgrading the TrueDepth front-facing camera to a 24-megapixel version.

A Redesign Worth Watching

The iPhone 17 Slim is shaping up to be a bold addition to Apple’s lineup, promising a thinner, more streamlined device with a fresh design. While nothing is confirmed yet, the rumors offer an exciting glimpse into what could be a groundbreaking iPhone launch in 2025.

Stay tuned as we learn more about Apple’s plans—this sleek new iPhone might just redefine the boundaries of smartphone design.
