Experimental FRITZ!OS 8.20 Update Brings WLAN Fixes to Three Fritzboxes

Fritz has published a new experimental laboratory update for three Fritzboxes that have not yet received the final release for Fritzos 8.20. Further improvements and errors are now followed.

It currently looks like the three models FRITZBOX 6690, 6670 Cable and 5590 for the next big version update will soon receive. The release to all owners of these Fritzboxes should not be long in coming. With platform X, Fritz only writes about the new experimental update that improvements in the WLAN area start. Apparently there are no new functions. The update fixes a problem in the WLAN, in which the option “Active WLAN devices may communicate with each other” did not work as intended. In addition, an error in the system was corrected in which the functional diagnosis of incorrectly indicated disorders of the Internet connection, although this actually existed. Further changes are currently not listed. The release notes are very short and include the following changes:
- WLAN: Remeded to the option “Active WLAN devices may communicate with each other” did not work
- System: Rosed The functional diagnosis showed errors for the internet connection despite the functioning internet connection in certain scenarios
Tips for the update
Owners of a non-provider-bound Fritzbox can now install the update via the online update function of your devices. Important: In case of doubt, Fritz cannot make support for the beta versions – you should only be the middle if a failure does not lead to significant problems. Why Fritz and not AVM? The Berlin network specialist AVM has been operating under the new name Fritz GmbH since August 2025.
With the renaming, the company uses the great awareness of its FRITZ!, Under the products such as the FRITZ! Box or FRITZ! OS have been successful for years. The aim is to increase recognition and create clarity – otherwise nothing changes for customers. The step follows the start of beekeeper Capital Partners in 2024, who want to advance the international expansion of the company.
