Expert confirms authenticity of leaked M4 MacBooks

Last week, two MacBooks with an M4 chip suddenly appeared in videos from Russian YouTubers. The special thing about it: Apple has not yet released the laptops. An expert has now confirmed the authenticity of the devices. What this means for customers.

New MacBooks can be seen in advance on YouTube

There has probably never been anything comparable in Apple’s history. A number of copies that had not previously been published found their way into the public domain. This is what has now happened with the upcoming MacBooks with M4 chip. Although the iPhone 4 was leaked in 2010 before its official presentation, it was only a single device.

Things are different with MacBooks. Because hundreds of copies appear to have been stolen from a warehouse. At least that’s what offers on the Internet suggest, where around 200 of the devices are available for purchase. However, there were legitimate doubts about the authenticity of the laptops.

Expert confirms authenticity

In his current one newsletter However, after consulting with his sources close to Apple, journalist Mark Gurman now confirms that authentic M4 MacBooks can be seen in the videos.

I can confirm that these are indeed Apple’s upcoming M4 MacBook Pros. Mark Gurman

Since Apple no longer officially sells its products in Russia, Gurman believes that the devices were stolen from a warehouse in another European country and then found their way east.

Details are suspicious

Apple ships new models weeks before they are released so that they can be delivered to customers right at the start of sales. Therefore, it seems plausible that there could have been a leak in one of the bearings. Gurman expects the new laptops, as well as the also expected new iMacs and Mac Minis, to officially hit shelves around November 1st.

However, the fact that the boxes of the new MacBooks shown in the videos show exactly the same image on the front as the older models also surprises the Bloomberg journalist. Apple usually renews the design with each generation. Accordingly, the image is a “strange and unusual choice.” Nevertheless, the leaked devices are the “real deal,” according to Gurman.

Rumors are confirmed

This is more or less good news for customers. Because this confirms the rumors about increased RAM in the basic configuration of the laptops. Apple had long insisted that eight gigabytes of RAM was more than enough for all requirements. Only with the development of Apple Intelligence did people slowly change course. The new MacBooks now come with 16 GB of RAM as standard. The three Thunderbolt 4 ports on the upcoming devices are also a welcome upgrade.

However, Apple will find it difficult to find anything positive about the whole incident. A large part of the fascination for the company comes from the mystery surrounding new products. Apple keynotes are particularly famous for Steve Jobs’s “one more thing”. There should be no more surprises when the new MacBooks are presented. Maybe Apple will even forego a presentation.
