A few hours earlier, Facebook started facing some problems. Some users were unable to access its full features. But everything is now getting back to normal.
The issue occurred due to DNS routing problems. It might take more hours before the service is fully operational. Besides Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Oculus VR also faced the same issue.
According to The Verge, this all started “before noon ET on Monday.” This outage had no malicious origin but a routine BGP update that went wrong.
In a statement to The Verge, Facebook spokesperson Joe Osborne says:
To everyone who was affected by the outages on our platforms today: we’re sorry. We know billions of people and businesses around the world depend on our products and services to stay connected. We appreciate your patience as we come back online.
This outage was the most significant for Facebook after a 2019 incident that lasted for more than 24 hours.
