Facebook is Taking on Zoom by launching Messenger Rooms

Facebook is taking on Zoom by introducing a new video conference version of its Messenger app called Messenger Rooms. This was announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Messenger Rooms will enable users to host a meeting with at least 50 people at once. There will be no time limit, as announced by Zuckerberg. The free version of Zoom allows 100 people together for 40 minutes max.

It is pertinent to mention here that Facebook users can also invite other people to Messenger Room even if they don’t have Facebook accounts.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, online video calling services are being frequently used. Zoom is one of the most popular and widely used video calling services.

Now Facebook is also launching Messenger Rooms for video calling. It will have AI-enabled virtual backgrounds, however, Facebook’s backgrounds will span 360 degrees. It will take the experience to “the next level” as claimed by Zuckerberg.

Currently, Messenger Rooms can be accessed via the Messenger App or the main Facebook App. However, very soon it will be added to Facebook’s other apps that include Instagram and WhatsApp. This week this service will be launched in a few countries and later it will be expanded globally in the upcoming weeks.

About WhatsApp Zuckerberg said, “WhatsApp is the only end-to-end encrypted video calling service.”
