Facebook: Merging Messenger And Instagram Chat Begins

Facebook has now also flipped the switch for the integration of the chat systems for Instagram and Messenger. Facebook is now Merging Messenger and Instagram chat, the group is thus beginning to further interlink the communication of its various services.

Some time ago, Facebook had announced its plan to expand the messenger functions to other services and to simplify communication between the platforms so that users of different services can also communicate with each other. At the beginning of July Facebook started to interlink WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, now Instagram is following this example.

The Messenger and Instagram have been bringing new features and innovations regularly, Messenger’s lock chat, screen sharing on mobiles, and Instagram’s TikTok video-sharing feature are the recent additions.

Choice Of Merging Instagram Chat With Messenger

There was no announced, official start shot from Facebook, instead, a message appeared when starting the app, The Verge noted. You don’t have to be afraid that you will get a merger that you definitely don’t want. Because at least currently, it is only an option. If you don’t want that, click on “Not now” instead of “Update“.

According to The Verge, the merger will start on both iOS and Android. Facebook may have introduced a server-side change that now sets the merger in motion.

New messenger feature

Instagram will then display an update screen with the message “There’s a New Way to Message on Instagram” with a list of new features that will be added. This includes a “new, colorful look for your chats”, more emoji reactions, swipe-to-reply, and the possibility to start chats with friends who use Facebook. If you allow the merger, the Facebook Messenger logo will be displayed there instead of the regular DM symbol at the top right (the paper plane).
