Facebook keeps on taking steps to ensure that authentic and healthy information disseminates from its platform. Now the company has announced that those pages who repeatedly disseminate false information from their platform would be blocked. This is the most recent step taken by Facebook to clean its platform.
The detail was given by Facebook product managers Satwik Shukla and Tessa Lyons in a blog post that said the aim of this step is to ensure pages don’t make money by spreading false information.
The blog post read like this “We’ve found instances of Pages using Facebook ads to build their audiences in order to distribute false news more broadly. “Now, if a Page repeatedly shares stories that have been marked as false by third-party fact-checkers, they will no longer be able to buy ads on Facebook. If Pages stop sharing false news, they may be eligible to start running ads again.”
The company is working in three areas to control fake news, that are unsettling the financial benefits for creating it, creating new products to fight the spread of it and aiding people to make improved decisions about how they take information.
The changes are being made on Facebook since November 2016. The root cause seems to be the blame put on Facebook on influencing US Presidential Elections negatively.
