On Monday, 15th March, Facebook announced to help people with its upcoming new tools for getting the vaccine shots against COVID-19, one of the features is to find a place and time to get yourself vaccinated.
These new features of the tech companies show their encouraging role towards public health during this pandemic. Social networks are also fighting against the misinformation about the vaccine causing many diseases. US President said, by 1st May, the vaccine should be available for all eligible adults.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a statement, “The data shows the vaccines are safe and they work. They’re our best hope for getting past this virus and getting back to normal life”. But nothing he said about getting the vaccine himself which makes people question as well.
An online Coronavirus information hub was launched by Facebook during the pandemic, expanding world-wide to its photo-service Instagram. The US-based users visiting this online information center will access this new tool in 17 different languages. This feature displays nearby places on the map that offer the COVID-19 vaccine. The locations are provided by VaccineFinder and have contact information of that place, operational hours, and a link to book an appointment. This new feature is the collaboration of Facebook with Boston Children Hospital.
Facebook is also partnering with health authorities and governments to get people registered for vaccinations through Whatsapp service. According to Whatsapp stats, 3 billion messages were sent by the governments, nonprofits, and international organizations to aware people about COVID-19.
Facebook also implementing labels to all the posts related to COVID-19 vaccines and will be directed to the COVID-19 Information Center. The false claims about the vaccine would be removed, as they lead to harm to the public. New tools will also be released to track real-time information about COVID-19 and to analyze data that why people are hesitating to get vaccinated which will help journalists, publishers, and governments.
