According to a report from EE Times, TSMC is having issues with the bulk production of 3nm chips. It is falling short of the tools and yield rate for the new chip technology. The tech company is known for utilizing TSMC’s chipsets in all its products. For the iPhone 15 Pro model, the company has decided to utilize TSMC’s 3nm chips.
The A17 Bionic chipsets are manufactured by TSMC. They are expected to be used in the iPhone 15 Pro models. They will be based on the 3nm process. In addition to this, the company is working on the M3 chips for Mac. They will also be based on a 3nm process. As per the latest estimates by analysts, the yield for A17 ad M3 processors is currently 55%.
Could this impact the sales of the iPhone 15 Pro?
Well, such issues can affect sales and stock of the iPhone 15 Pro. If this is the case, then the model would be difficult to access upon launch. Even though the launch is months away still the current situation holds the potential to impact the stock at launch in September. Previously, it has been observed that the company delayed a specific model for a month or so. Like the case with the iPhone 12 launch, the Pro Max and Mini models of the iPhone 12 were delayed for about a month i.e., they were launched in October. Something similar could happen this year too.
Moreover, this is also an explanation for the arrival of the MacBook Air 15 with an M2 chipset rather than the new M3. The new MacBook Air 15 will be announced at WWDC in June.
