FritzOS 8.0: Three more models supplied

The central innovations of FritzOS 8.0 include improved WLAN mesh functions, which enable a more stable connection throughout the living area. These optimizations are intended to ensure that users can seamlessly switch between different WiFi access points without experiencing any interruptions. The overview is improved by a new design of the overview.

Another important aspect of FritzOS 8.0 is the optimization of energy saving functions. These new functions help to reduce the energy consumption of connected devices – with the corresponding ecological and economic benefits. In addition, the security features have been expanded to better protect the home network from external threats.

Additionally, the user interface has been redesigned to allow easier navigation and management of advanced features. These adjustments are intended to help users use their FritzBox more efficiently and make better use of the new possibilities.

New functions for FritzBox 7590, 7583 and 7583 with FritzOS 8.0:

  • User interface: Graphical representation of the Fritz!Box connection status on the overview (homepage)
  • New online monitor provides information about the utilization of the Internet connection and the utilization of individual network devices
  • Internet: IPv6 data can now also be transmitted via a Wireguard® VPN tunnel
  • Mesh: Graphical overview with new design and additional functions
  • DECT: The number of simultaneous DECT phone calls possible has been increased from three to five
  • Push service: revised design and more convenience

Automatic or manual

As always, the router update occurs either automatically if this is selected in the settings. Alternatively, obtaining the new router software can also be initiated manually. AVM recommends backing up the current settings before installation so as not to lose important configurations in the event of problems during the update. Carry out a manual update of the FritzBox:

  • Click on “System” in the FritzBox user interface.
  • Click on “Update” in the “System” menu.
  • Click on the “Search for new FritzOS” button.
  • If the FritzOS update has been found, click on the “Start update now” button.
