Galaxy S25 could use wildly powerful 3nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip

As the anticipated release date of the Galaxy S24 draws near, speculation regarding the Galaxy S25 series has already begun to surface. There are rumors that the Galaxy S25 will introduce a new design language, which will subsequently be applied to other Samsung smartphones. Another piece of information has surfaced recently that may hint at what the Galaxy S25’s performance would be like.

Reliable leaker DCS (Digital Chat Station) on Weibo claims that TSMC is the manufacturer of the 3nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (codename SUN). It is said to have an octa-core Oryon CPU with six power-efficient Phoenix M CPU cores and two high-performance Phoenix L CPU cores. According to him, Qualcomm’s performance has significantly improved, and the CPU performance will be comparable to Apple’s M series CPUs. At least in North American regions, the Galaxy S25 series is anticipated to employ this same technology. Samsung may choose to include its Exynos 2500 processor, also known as the Dream Chip, in the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ models sold in other nations.

According to a different tipster, Revegnus, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor has better power efficiency than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, with a power consumption of only 8 W. Additionally, he asserts that the desktop-grade M2 CPU found in Apple laptops and desktop computers is 10% less powerful than the Adreno 830 GPU found in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. It seems that the upcoming flagship chipset from Qualcomm is capable of scoring more than 2,800 points in the single-core CPU performance test on Geekbench 6 and more than 10,000 points in the multi-core CPU performance test. The Nuvia team, which Qualcomm acquired a few years ago, produced the proprietary Oryon CPU cores.

In terms of the functionality and effectiveness of its A-series internal chips, Apple has had a dream run for the last ten years. For years, Android processor manufacturers Samsung, MediaTek, and Qualcomm have been attempting, but without success, to match Apple’s performance. With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, Qualcomm appears to have finally caught up to Apple.
