Galaxy S25 reportedly saving on the display

The manufacturer allegedly wants to reduce the production costs of its new flagships. Therefore, the next generation will probably rely on last-gen technology for OLED screens. However, it is significantly less efficient than current technology.

The launch of the Galaxy S25 series is getting closer

The release of the new Galaxy S25 series from Samsung is expected as early as spring 2025. Since the date is not too far away, the available information about the new top models from the Korean manufacturer is now accumulating. After a lot of recent criticism of Samsung’s products, some of which even came from within their own ranks, they don’t want to expose themselves with the next generation of smartphones.

Samsung saves on the display on new devices

However, the latest information about the screens of the S25 series doesn’t quite match this. Because like the Korean website ETNews (via Android Police) reports, Samsung is reportedly planning to install ‘outdated’ technology. It is said that the company would not rely on the new M14 OLED displays for the iPhone 16 like its competitor Apple, but would instead use M13 units.

After consulting with suppliers, Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants, a usually quite reliable source, also confirmed this information. His Post on X According to Samsung, this step is being taken to save costs in the production of smartphones.

Lower efficiency, shorter shelf life

However, the difference between M13 and M14 could be noticeable to customers. According to Young, the latest OLED variant, which was developed by Samsung itself, offers 20 to 30 percent better efficiency compared to its predecessor.

The shelf life is also said to be up to 20 percent longer. It is difficult to say whether the cost-cutting measures have anything to do with the change in course in the chip installed in upcoming smartphones. It has just become clear that Samsung has completely stopped using its own Exynos chip and is instead using the recently introduced Snapdragon 8 Elite from Qualcomm in all models.

Still a good display

After all, it can be assumed that the Galaxy S25 series will continue to be released with Gorilla Armor Glass, which not only protects the device screens particularly well against scratches and breaks, but also reduces reflections by up to 75 percent, according to the manufacturer Corning.

Buyers of the upcoming top smartphones from Samsung will definitely not get a bad display. They just aren’t the newest and most efficient OLEDs on the market.
