Galaxy Z Flip 5 will feature redesigned hinge that decreases display crease on the inner display

Samsung is aiming to resolve two of the biggest limitations of its clamshell foldable by next year. Ross Young an expert in the Display industry mentioned last week that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will feature a bigger external display. In addition to this, a new hinge technology will also be introduced. The new hinge tech is expected to reduce the crease that appears along the fold line on the inner display. These claims have been backed by another trusted tipster Ice Universe. They have shared some more information about the expected changes for the next-gen foldable.

As per the new report, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will showcase a water-drop-type hinge. This is quite similar to the one found in the upcoming OPPO Find N2 Flip. Given this hinge design, a water drop-shaped gap will be left between the two halves of the folding display along the fold line. As this fold will not be that sharp, it will wipe out the crease appearing in the middle of the screen when the device was unfolded. With each new generation of foldable, Samsung is working hard to eliminate the crease. Not an obvious improvement has been shown with previous models. But with the next-gen foldable we can expect better results.

Concerning the external display, the reports by Ice Universe point out a reference to the OPPO Find N2 Flip. It measures a 3.26-inch on the outside. As per the reports, Samsung is working to equip Galaxy Z Flip 5 with the somewhat same size. Though, the precise specifications have not been made by the source. Still, the previous rumors indicated an external display bigger than 3 inches diagonally. In contrast, Galaxy Z Flip 4 had a 1.9-inch panel on the outside.

Additionally, the reports have shown a bigger battery capacity for the Galaxy Z Flip 5. The current model holds a 3,700mAh battery unit. Given the power users, this battery is not enough. The OPPO Find N2 Flip is reported to have a 4300mAh battery. Though Samsung may not match its rival, we can expect it to be somewhat around 4,000mAh. These changes will make the device bulky.

The release of Galaxy Z Flip5 still requires more time. It is expected that Samsung might introduce the fifth-gen foldable in August next year. That being said, the company has plenty of time to test and experiment with the additions. It might be that the end product doesn’t show up as what we are hearing today. Only time will clarify the reality.
