Google 4K Chromecast To Receive Android TV 12 Update

The cheap Chromecast with Google TV has worse specs than its 4K brother, but with Android 12 it has a more modern operating system basis. Now there are indications that the Chromecast with Google TV 4K is also making the leap to Android TV 12.

To get started, it must be said: In everyday use, the two current Google TV stick products are very similar in use. But the cheaper model, which has been available since September, brings a few innovations that Google introduced with its Google TV update based on Android 12. The 4K model had also received a few updates since its release, but it had always stayed with Android 10. Now Google is starting to deliver the update with the big version jump.

As Android Police reports, there is currently no official confirmation from Google. However, there are reports on Reddit from several users whose Chromecast with Google TV 4K has received the Android TV 12 build in the past few days. In the update, which is 722 MB in size, Google delivers new settings and functions, among other things :

  • Settings for HDR formats
  • Settings for surround sound
  • New frame rate matching feature that automatically adjusts the video output to match the frame rate of the content
  • Microphone and camera settings
  • Privacy and security features
  • Bugfix in connection with USB-C hubs
  • July 2022 security patch

Coming Soon

As usual, Google is currently delivering the update in small waves that should get bigger over time. In principle, you just have to wait until the Chromecast 4K automatically displays the update. Alternatively, those who are impatient can check Settings ⇾ System ⇾ About ⇾ System update to see if the update is displayed there.
