Google Bans Huawei From Using Play Store, YouTube, Gmail, and Chrome

Huawei has been under the spotlight for a long time now, especially US authorities see it as a national security risk. The company has been facing strong opposition in the United States as well as some European States.

The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the U.S Department of Commerce on May 15 has included Huawei along with its affiliates into the list that has a number of countries and people considered national security risk for the U.S. Government.

According to Reuters, Google has now suspended its services with Huawei in order to comply with the new change. The search engine giant has stopped its proprietary apps and services on Huawei Mobiles.

However, Huawei has been repeatedly saying that it has no agendas for the Chinese government and Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd solely operates independently. Despite the Chinese manufacturer’s assurance to comply with the rules security concerns of the countries in Europe and America the U.S. departments see it otherwise.

UK to block Huawei in 5G development and restrict its in services

Since the company Huawei has been blacklisted in the United States, the company will not be able to use Google’s products and services that are not open source, but the existing Huawei phones will continue to run the services and Android which is available publicly.

According to the Google’s spokesperson, “Google will not release any sort of updates including security and technical for Android software running on Huawei devices, however, the existing phones from the company will continue to enjoy the Google apps and services. The new Huawei phones will not feature Google Play Store, YouTube, Gmail, Chrome browser, Google News and other popular Google apps and services.

The company’s lawyers has been looking into the impact due to this ban, the impact in China is a grain of salt as Google apps and services are banned in China. However, the smartphone manufacturer would have an adverse impact in Europe, Middle East and Other Asian countries as Google apps and services are the most popular ones every Android phone carries.

Huawei has already mentioned in the past that the company is working on its own operating system similar to Android, the company said it in March that its future phones might use its own OS because U.S. authorities are would not allow the company to use their operating systems for long. The recent tensions between Huawei and the U.S. government would clearly define their paths away from each other. Huawei has also been restricted in 5G development in the UK, last month security authorities in the UK said they will put restrictions on Huawei in Core and non-core parts of the 5G infrastructure. After this new move by Google, Huawei is likely to drop Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips in their smartphones in retaliation.
