Google Chrome Adds New Privacy And Security Features In The Browser

Google Comes with new and improved data protection and security features for its Chrome browser.

Chrome is getting new security and privacy features for the desktop version that will be available in the coming weeks. Google does not give a specific date because it will be rolled out gradually for users. Among other things, the focus is on the more intuitive operation and simplified application.

The management of cookies should be clearer. By default, users can now block third-party cookies in incognito mode. Previously, these remained even when surfing undercover until the end of the session and were only deleted afterward. Cookies can also be blocked or permitted for individual websites. In the future, there will be an eye symbol for this in every tab.

Permissions for access to camera, microphone, notifications, and location are more present in the settings. The option to delete the browser history has also moved up in the section on data protection and security. The “People” area has become “Google and I” – according to Google, this should make it clearer that it is an exchange of data between the user and Google.

More security when expanding

There is also a tab for a security check in the settings. There Chrome warns when saved passwords have been hacked and, when Safe Browsing is deactivated, informs the warning service when dangerous pages are visited or apps and extensions are loaded that are harmful. The activated security system should be expanded “over the next year”, Google announces.

Chrome also notifies users of new versions – so they could benefit from the latest security features. If you do have a malicious extension installed, Google explains how to remove it. The toolbar is given a “puzzle” symbol under which all extensions are clearly displayed. You can pin favorites here. With the innovations, Google is also opting for DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH). Chrome automatically updates to DoH. The function can be deactivated, DNS providers can be defined in the security settings. As a test, DoH has been running for some Chrome users since last year.
