In March, search engine company Google announced that Chrome is the fastest browser for macOS. Meanwhile, the developers continued to work on the performance of the app. The browser should now run 20 percent faster. Google tweeted that the speed of the program has always played a major role since its introduction in 2008.
In Apple’s own benchmark, Chrome for macOS managed to achieve 360 points and with that a new high score. Three months ago, only 300 points were achieved. According to the test result, Chrome build 102 runs 20 percent faster on macOS than the old Chrome version 99.
However, in addition to the tweet, the developers have not published a blog post detailing the recently made improvements. It is therefore unclear how the additional performance increase came about. Chrome 99 delivered significantly better performance on macOS because the V8 spark plug compiler was improved and built-in calls shortened.
In addition, the version features technologies such as ThinLTO and the pass-through decoder. It remains to be seen whether Google will make a statement about this at a later date.
Of course, the Chrome browser not only performs relatively well in combination with macOS but also on Windows and can therefore continue to enjoy great popularity.
Microsoft has now also noticed this, so the Redmond-based company is now trying harder to advertise Edge as an attractive second browser. Only recently did Microsoft release a preview version with additional options for importing data.
