Google Drive gets improved search and video playback

Google Drive

Google has rolled out tow new updates for Google Drive. Notably, the tech giant has rolled out improved search options and faster loading for videos.

“For all new videos uploaded to Google Drive, Google has enabled the generation and playback of Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) video transcodes.” The company states that this will make it possible for consumers to experience playback at varying resolutions depending on factors such as the quality of their local network.

Well, this update offers two advantages. It will decrease the join time (the time required to start playing video once the play button is pressed). Secondly, videos will play at normal and high speeds by reducing re-buffering. One thing to notice here is that this feature is applicable to videos that will be uploaded from now onwards. It will be available for older videos on the platform before the end of this year.

Google Drive gets improved search options

The company has rolled out a new iOS version of the app. It comes with filter categories like Search in My Drive, Type, People, and Modified that make the search quite convenient. Users can customize their search by using the relevant filters. The company states that these filters will be available on Android version of the app in the future. Both features will be rolled out to personal Google accounts, Google Workspace Individual subscribers, and Google Workspace customers.
