There is a new security update for Google Chrome . The new update is recommended to all users, as it fixes several vulnerabilities, some of which are described as high-risk.
Google released Chrome in version 94.0.4606.61 for Windows, Mac and Linux. According to the description, this is an emergency update that fixes a highly dangerous zero-day vulnerability that is already being exploited in the wild: “Google is aware that an exploit for CVE-2021-37973 exists in the wild” , it says in the co-published security notice .
Details of ongoing attacks have not yet been disclosed, but this is not uncommon. “Access to error details and links can remain restricted until the majority of users have updated Chrome with a fix,” writes Google. “We will also maintain restrictions if the bug is in a third-party library on which other projects depend in a similar way but which have not yet been fixed.”
The bug, which is listed as CVE-2021-37973, is a vulnerability in Portals, Google’s new website navigation system for Chrome. If this vulnerability is successfully exploited, an attacker could run arbitrary code on computers with unpatched versions of Chrome. The fixed zero-day vulnerability was reported by Google Project Zero. The Chrome update will be rolled out for the stable desktop channel and will be available to all users in the next few days.
It is faster if you search for new updates manually in the Chrome menu> “Help> About Google Chrome”. The updates are available to all users via the auto-update function or for download (for example in the WinFuture download area):
