Google Focuses On mid-range smartphones again

Google presented the Pixel 9a. The cheapest of this year’s fleet of official Google smartphones is now launched at prices from 549 euros. The device again fully relies on AI-based software, but also brings various upgrades.

The Google Pixel 9a takes over the design language of its larger sister models, but slimmed down in some crucial points to enable the lower entry price. This also includes the display, which is a plastic oled panel with 2424×1080 pixels resolution and a diagonal of 6.3 inches.

The display edges are a little wider in the panel referred to as the “Actua display”, while the maximum refresh rate can only be switched between 60 and 120 Hertz. The brightness of the panels provided with a cover made of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 is given in HDR operation with 1800 candela, while up to 2700 candela lace brightness should be possible.

Under the hood is the Google’s own tensor G4 Octacore SoC, which also serves in the other Pixel 9 models. The chip is always combined with eight gigabytes of RAM and a 128 or 256 GB internal flash memory. You won’t find a memory card slot here.

There is a careful upgrade for the cameras. The main camera uses a 48-megapixel sensor with quad phase detection dual pixel autofocus and has an optical image stabilizer. The maximum aperture size is specified with f/1.7 and a sensor is used by 1/2 “format. The width of the field of vision is 82 degrees. In addition, there is also a 13-megapixel camera for ultra-wave angle recordings, which has an F/2.2-aperture and a 120 degree wide range of vision. 13-megapixel sensor in the front camera.

A plastic cover. The current Android 15 in its purest form runs as the operating system on the new mid-range smartphone in its purest form, with the manufacturer promising operating system updates and just as long security updates for seven years. The Google Pixel 9a costs 549 euros in the basic version in Germany, while 649 euros are due for the model with twice as much storage.
